what synthetic fabric introduced in the 1970s is made of teflon?

last week isaac's family had a shower for us and it was so much fun. it was the first shower where isaac was there with me and i loved it. isaac's family spoiled us with yummy food, lots of gifties and an embarrassing game :) they passed out questions for everyone to ask us and the questions for me were really hard "guy" questions and they asked isaac really hard "girl" questions. we couldn't even answer each other's questions. every time we missed a question i had to put something "manly" on and isaac had to put on something "girly." it was a lot of fun...but as you can see by the pics we weren't very good at answering the questions...
these little boys were loving this. they thought it was so funny that isaac was dressed like a girl.
our fan club. they even made fun of me. rascals.
good looking couple aren't we.

9 days!

and in case you were wondering the answer to this post's title...
its polyester.
how in the world was i supposed to know that!

I made you a cupcake...

but I eated it

Referencing one of my fave websites ever, this tshirt from Hot Topic is just too cute!

Sometimes treats are just too good to resist even with the best intentions in mind! This turquoise T-shirt features an image of a cupcake inside a stomach with ''I Made You A Cupcake, But I Eated It!''

To find it go to Hot Topic and search cupcakes -for some reason linking to specific HT pages from here really doesn't work!

Comfy as a cupcake

Pink, pretty and flowery - what more can a girl want? This really cute cushion is from the London Cushion Co and comes in pink and white.

V.cute :)

Cute as a Cupcake

A new range from Matalan of cupcake inspired nightware - although you could wear the tops out...the shorts too if you're brave enough! Full range is available online here, although sizes are limited so you may be best to head to your nearest store to buy them!

Momiji Cupcake Cuteness

ooooh look at all this gorgeous Momiji cupcake cuteness!

Spread the love. Pixie says you're a cup cake pixie from a magic land Pixie likes escapology and cups of tea.

You can buy them in loads of places online and on the high street, including the cupcake cases here, the mug here and the doll (which was featured on the blog sometime ago!) here.

The cases come in a pretty tin full of 100 colourful paper cupcake cases, and 20 little flags featuring phrases such as "this one's mine" and "hey cupcake!". Designed by Joanna Zhou (a cupcake connoisseur and Manga artist!), these will brighten up any tea party.

The mug features lots of cupcakes and inside reads "you're a cup-cake pixie from a magic land"

Cute overload :)

National Cupcake Week

Oh my!!!

National Cupcake Week is a fantastic week-long extravaganza being organised by British Baker to celebrate this very special bakery product.

The aim of the week, held September 14-19 2009, is to draw customers’ attention to the many wonderful recipes and exotic toppings available for cupcakes and to tempt both new and existing customers to buy (at least) one during the week!

The event will be highlighted in bakery and café outlets via special merchandising materials and bright window stickers, urging customers to come in and treat themselves.

British Baker will be producing a creative recipe for each day of the week, including an especially indulgent cupcake for Saturday, September 18.

But that’s not all. A special window dressing competition will also run nationally to promote cupcakes during the week and put bakers’ artistic talents to the test.

And British Baker will be organising a PR campaign to drive awareness of the week in the national media.

More details will be posted soon.

Further info, contact details etc can be found here - be assured I shall be keeping an eye out for any news about this event! You can also join their Facebook group (I have!) to keep up to date.

There is also some very interesting data/info re cupcakes on the Bakery Info website, (did you know that in the last 12 months, sales of cupcakes in the UK grew by 13.6% to £33.5m...good grief, or that a total of 32.6% of the population buy cupcakes!..wow maybe I should start selling them) but I'm less keen to read about thaw and serve cupcakes - a range that bakeries can buy and then pass off as fresh - I'm sorry but aren't bakeries meant to bake...yuk not for me!

Wonder if she'll buy cupcakes with her prize money?

From the NY Daily News...

In a flurry of chocolate cream and crumby debris, the yoga teacher crammed her last cupcake - No. 17 - winning the contest, and defeating her closest competitor by just one of the sweet treats.

Ivy Bakery held its first cupcake-eating contest outside of the shop on 87th St. in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The five competitors were given five minutes to inhale as many chocolate cupcakes as possible. The winner took home $75 and dubious bragging rights.

Nancy Cummings, the first-place winner, said that her role as a yoga instructor gave her what it took to be the champion.

"I am disciplined and focused and I can digest them faster," said the slender 31-year-old brunette from Bay Ridge, who dipped each little chocolate cake into a glass of water before shoving it whole into her mouth.

Runner-up Dominick Ibelli, 35, gave Cummings a chocolate-smeared handshake and congratulated her on the victory. He then ate one more cupcake in a moment of second-place showmanship.

One failed competitor, though, wasn't eating any after-game cupcakes. After the contest, Jo Rose, 50, sat with his head bowed.

"I am feeling a little sick," the Bay Ridge writer said. "I gave it my best shot. But I am gonna hurl any moment."

Personally I think I'd rather just eat a couple and enjoy them rather than stuffing them in my mouth like that - cupcakes are all about enjoying them and shovelling them in (All wet and moist too..dunking cupcakes in water eugh) seems to be be the opposite of enjoyment to me!

bachelorette weekend.

last weekend was my bachelorette weekend with my besties in vegas and let me tell you, i got so spoiled. lets start with the suite at the wynn...aka the "bwynn"

can you believe that bathroom?! and the king size bed!! kari's dad hooked us up big time. check out the view from our rooms, and my sexy self.

my friends took full advantage of the bachelorette fun and made me wear a sash that said "miss out of control bachelorette" on it all over the strip. oh, and it had flashing blue lights on it. didn't draw attention to me at all...
kari also made us all t-shirts!! they were so cute! mine of course said "bride" on the front and the back said "emma's bachelorette vegas party 2009 - enjoying fantasy before reality"
indeed.
this sweetie girl drove all the way from cali to spend the weekend with us. we were loving the flowers and geodes.
so my friends came up with quite the game for me to play in vegas. they had a series of 6 cards for me to open and in order for me to receive my gifts, i had to complete the dare. a few of them i was able to do pretty easy, but a few required some ... men. australian men in fact. haha they were really nice guys and went along with everything i asked. here i am with the world travelers. see the one on the left in the coral shirt? well...one of my dares was to get someone to kiss brynn. this little guy was loving her immediately. haha i have it all on video but for brynn's sake i'll keep it to myself...
another one of my dares was to take a pic with 2 guys on the strip with their shirts off. here you have it.
the next day we were whisked off to mandalay bay to our own private cabana at a private pool. we napped, had some serious girl talk, and ate all day while soaking up some rays.

that night we had such a feast at the cafe at mandalay bay. so delish. then guess who we saw in concert! ub40!! hahaha yes, ub40, with hits such as "red, red wine" and "can't help falling in love"...such winners. we of course had our own vip suite for the concert and danced the night away. i have included some ub40 on my playlist for your listening pleasure.

pre-ub40 fun.
we love you ub40.
what a weekend. i have the greatest friends! i love you girls! more to come on the pre-wedding festivities.
13 days!

Cupcake cuteness

The plan today was to visit Love Bakery, however I have a stonking hangover so have spent my day off faffing about online. I found this cute little purse from John Lewis and thought I'd share it...isn't it cute! It comes in pink and blue, but why anyone would choose blue over pink is beyond me!

I'm off to Brighton tomorrow so expect some Angel Food Bakery pics on Sunday :)

Tina, I salute you!

Tina, we salute you is a coffee in Newington Green (v.handy for me as I can get a bus from my house to there...although going practically the whole route of the number 21 bus isn't really "handy" when you think about it!).

Tina WSY started as a cupcake stall in Brick Lane and is now a really cute coffee shop, selling fab cupcakes, really nice coffee and lovely looking food (I can't vouch for it as just had coffee and a cupcake but the sandwiches looked awesome!).

My vanilla cupcake was really fresh and yummy - they seemed to have a high turnover of cupcake sales - I was there about 15mins and several people came in for takeaway cupcakes :) The coffee was also really great - I wish I'd taken a pic as it was beautifully presented with a nice effect on the foam :)

It's a little out of the way but definitely worth visiting - and you can always walk off the cupcake afterwards along the canal, or go to one of the great looking pubs nearby and soak up some beer with it :)

Thanks to fellow cupcake lover Bellaphon's blog for alerting me to the existence of this place!

le petit gâteau est yuk

Ok, bear with me...my French is merde so I've used Google translator to allegedly say "the cupcake is yuk", I hope it's correct,if not I apologise. My reason for the French is because I tried a strawberry cupcake a Patisserie Valerie at the weekend and it was not a nice experience. Too sweet, not fresh and I'm pretty sure it had been dropped on at some point in it's life..dreading where I didn't eat it after I realised. Also the coffee was awful so...Je vais maintenant être éviter Patisserie Valérie (I hope this says I shall be avoiding Patisserie Valerie!)

Model cupcakes

I popped into Selfridges on Saturday and ignoring the gorgeous looking Lola's cupcakes opted to try one by a baker I'd never heard of - Lorraine Pascale. It turns out Lorraine is a rather famous supermodel (I recognise her face now I've seen it), however she has turned her back on modelling to become a patisserie chef.

Dubbed the next Jane Asher of the cake world by Selfridges' food director Ewan Venters, Pascale (who enrolled on fulltime Diploma of Food and Wine course at Leiths, the renowned cookery school, and has worked in the kitchens of The Wolseley and The Mandarin Oriental to name but just a few)

I got a chocolate, for Manny and a vanilla for me. They both looked cute, however as soon as I went to eat it I realised it was STALE....like 4 day old stale...gross. It's now at the point where I will never buy fresh food from Selfridges again as they obviously do not care what state their food is sold in (I had a similar experience with Lola's - which was sad as their fresh cupcakes are utterly gorgeous). The cake was so hard I fear I'd have broken my tooth on it if I bit it and the frosting was off. I should've kept it and taken it back but I'd already endured the Saturday crowds once so I didn't fancy another trip to the West End. Manny fared slightly better with his chocolate cake which he said was ok but not the freshest.

It's a pity as Lorraine's cakes do look lovely and I love her slogan "there's always room for cake" unfortunately in Selfridges case it seems to be stale cake :(

Btw in the background of the cupcakes you can just see the St George's biscuits by Artisan Biscuits I bought for Manny - I highly recommend them, utterly cute and gorgeous - if you like lemon curd (and who doesn't!!?) you'll love these! Also the bottom pic shows the window of River Island on Oxford Street, I kept meaning to take a pic to share but never had my camera when I passed by!

Gifts!

From me to myself and also from the lovely Manny to me!

How great is my husband - he read on my blog that I liked the mirror and key covers from Jukupop in my post a couple of days ago and....well today, they arrived and are now all mine :) Thanks hon -they're ultra cute and I got a free lolly!

Also yesterday after a hard week at work I decided to treat myself to this cute little pair of bags from Paperchase. The little felt one is now sitting on our shelf unit looking cute amongst all the other cupcake stuff, the other one will be used to carry my lunch to work :)

Crumbs and Doilies in Covent Garden...YAY!

As of yesterday, one of our favourite cupcake bakers will have a stall in Covent Garden on Thursdays from midday (end times vary depending on dates -click here for further info) as part of the Real Food Festival which runs until September!!

I popped by yesterday and picked up some mini cupcakes, including two of their flavour of the month, cherry and almond. All I can say is YUM! After the "wrong" taste of the M&S cakes these were just what the doctor order- utterly melt in the mouth scrummy :) I may have to pop to their stall at Partridges Market tomorrow to see if I can get a full size one!
