Cake is what makes Britain great

A couple of rather unusual and very exciting cake events coming up in London in the next couple of months.

Jon Burgerman, Miss Cakehead, George Morton-Clark, Lily Vanilli, Alex Turvey

First up is Cake Britain, the UK's first ever edible art exhibition. Cake Britain is a Fairtrade Mad Artists Tea Party sponsored by Tate & Lyle.

Miss Cakehead

Miss Cakehead, of Cakehead loves Evil, has teamed up with Tate & Lyle for the first ever Mad Artists Tea Party with Lily Vanilli as Curator of Cake. An original concept from Miss Cakehead, it will pair the World’s most creative cake makers with artists and creatives who want to ‘create with cake’ to produce one-off edible artworks for auction.

Featuring the UK's most creative bakers (or cake-ists), including Beas of Bloomsbury, Crumbs and Doilies, Prudence Staite, and a collaboration I'm most looking forward to Molly Bakes and Kooky Bakes. The works of art/cake will be the bakers interpretation of the meaning of fair.

All of the art created for the tea parties will use Fairtrade products and exist only temporarily as visitors can buy a slice of the action to eat at the events - I bet this is going to be popular so you should probably visit as soon as possible before there’s only a few crumbs left.

For those of you outside London, Miss Cakehead, of , will be touring ‘Cake Britain’ in the lead up to the event with a life size edible cupcake tree – an art installation and creative consumer experience that will allow children to literally ‘pick’ their own cupcakes off the tree in a bizarre twist on traditional pick your own farms. The inspiration of the tree coming from The Faraway Tree series of books by Enid Blyton, a concept followed through as the cupcake tree will never ‘grow’ the same cakes twice I really hope the cupcake tree is coming to London too!!

During the course of the exhibition a series of unique ‘cakey’ events will take place; from ultimate ‘rock cake classes’ (baking AC/DC style) to a sing-a-long Busgy Malone screening complete with splurge guns. More information on booking will be releases soon and I'll post more info here as soon as I have it!

All profits from the event will go to charity, including We Make Peace which campaigns for peace education in schools.

Cake Britain takes place Friday 27th to Sunday 29th August at; The Future Gallery, 5 Great Newport Street, London, WC2H 7HY.

Also coming soon, the next Mad Artist Tea Party event has already been planned. Eat your Heart Out promises the world’s first 18+ cakeshop, opening as a pop up in central London. Manned by Zombie serving staff and serving the world’s most terrifying edibles these are suitable for adult eyes only, so extreme some even come with protective clothing!

Once I have more details of both events I shall post them up asap.

Also, I also finally got my hands on A Zombie Ate my Cupcake by Lily Vanilli and will post my review soon.

I for one am very excited about both events!! Cake, cake trees, heavy metal, zombies and gruesome eats - what more can you ask for!

You can join the Mad Artists Tea Party event on Facebook, and follow @miss_cakehead on Twitter.

Thanks to Nathan Pask for the photos and Miss Cakehead for the information!
