Liem Seeng Tee (1893-1956) was the founder of PT. HM Sampoerna, a major tobacco companies in Indonesia. He was the first generation of the Sampoerna family, the father of Aga Sampoerna and grandfather of Putera Sampoerna.
Liem is an immigrant from a poor family in Fujian province in China. He came to Indonesia in 1898 with his father. Shortly after arriving in Indonesia, his father died.
Liem then appointed as a child by a family in Bojonegoro. There he learned to mix tobacco which is then sold at the train station.
Once married to Siem Tjang Nio, Liem continue compounding tobacco. Racikannya was appreciated by the public and in 1913, he founded the Handel Maastchpaij Liem Seeng Tee who later became PT. Sampoerna. Sampoerna continues to grow into large companies despite having several problems, among them the burning factory.
Liem died in 1956. His son, Aga, then resume the leadership of the company.
